China Glasses Manufacturing Industry Market Prospects and Investment Forecast Report, 2013-2017

Taking all factors into consideration, it’s predicted the sales revenue of China glasses manufacturing industry will probably break through 20 billion Yuan, with an increase of more than 30%. In the future, some changes will take place in glasses manufacturing industry actively or passively, and these changes come from the consumer’s demand and the needs of healthy development of industry itself. Only keeping adapting to new changes and pursuing active innovation can enterprise develop better and better in the fierce competition.

Glasses manufacturing industry belongs to the typical light industry. It develops relatively early in China. There are many kinds of products in the industry, including lenses for a variety of uses, assembled spectacles, corneal contact lens, eyeglass lens, spectacle frame, etc. China has become the world’s major glasses consumption country and production country as well. According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, in 2010, there were 421 glasses manufacturing enterprises above designated size in total in China, with the total assets of 18.209 billion Yuan. The industry achieved the sales revenue of 15.436 billion Yuan, with a year-on-year increase of 22.56%; and it achieved the total profits of 848 million Yuan, with a year-on-year increase of 43.88%.

Glasses industry has both vast market, and great potentials for development. According to statistics, there are more than 400 million people needing wearing glasses in China. If calculating it by 5 years for updating, the demand for glasses is nearly 80 million pairs annually, plus the development of sunglasses and other purposed lens, the market prospects is optimistic.

The high profit return attracts the attention from international glasses manufacturing giants. Many foreign alligators are successively grapping a piece of market share, by means of investment, acquisition, etc. HAL Investments（Asia）B.V, the largest glasses investment company in EU, has purchased 78% equities of Red Star Optical Company, a time-honoured brand in China, with 214 million Yuan; Luxottic, a glass giant in Italy, has spent 600 million Yuan in buying Beijing Discerning Optical, Guangzhou Minglang Optical, and Shanghai Modern Optical Company, there high-end glasses chain store companies in China. Along with the acquisition between foreign brands and domestic brand, as well as the uprising of some China’s local glasses brands, a large-scale shuffle in glasses industry is inevitable.

With the increasing pressure of study and working, more and more people are nearsighted. Meanwhile, people’s health awareness is growing, so the investment in eye care is increasing added. According to statistics, the potentials and growth of glasses consumption in mainland China ranks the first in the world. Nearly 400 million people need glasses for the reason of study, living and involving in work with computer for a long time. If calculating it by 5 years for updating, the demand for glasses can reach 100 million pairs.

In addition, with the surge of outdoor travelling and under the background of using glasses for decoration, sunglasses and contact lens more and more tend to attract mainland consumers. Today, the emerging consumers in mainland China (from age of 18 to 40) possess the strongest capability for fashion products and brand products, which directly results in the demand for sunglasses and contact lens increasing annually.
