The sewage heat pump system is one of the heat pump technologies which with the most bright prospect for development and application. Presently, this technology is well developed and with many practical engineering examples at home and abroad. At the beginning of 1980s it was widely applied in North European countries like Sweden and Norway and partially applied in China. Data shows that the application of sewage heat pump system will save more than 2/3 electric energy comparing with electric heating boiler, and more than 1/2 coal energy comparing with traditional coal burning boiler. As the heat source temperature of sewage heat pump is relatively stable all year round, the refrigeration and heating coefficient is about 40% higher than that of traditional air source heat pump, and the operating cost is 50% to 60% of general central air condition.

Comparing with clean heating modes the calculation results show that economic efficiency of sewage heat pump is very significant: equipment investment, annual operating fee and cost are 84.1%, 85.0% and 72.5% of groundwater heat source system, 77.1%, 35.0% and 46.2% of gas air-cooled air conditioning system.
