Label is special printing material which marks product name, logo, ingredient, manufacturer, date of manufacture and important attributes. It is an important means of promotion and marketing of goods. Label printing covers letterpress printing, flexographic printing, offset printing, gravure printing, screen printing and digital printing, etc.
Currently, the global self-adhesive label printing can be divided into three camps according to the different printing methods. North America is the typical representative with flexographic printing as leading technology. Letterpress and flexographic printing are equally splitted in the European market. Flexographic printing applications are basically the same as the American ones. Letterpress printing all uses UV ink. Letterpress printing dominates in Asia-Pacific region and mostly in developing countries of the Asia-Pacific region. Label printing is still relatively backward. Even by letterpress printing, only a small number of UV ink equipment is used. Most of label printing still uses ink resins, roll-to-volume printing and sheet-fed printing. Due to a higher proportion of manual labeling, sheet fed printing self-adhesive labels are widely used. In terms of die cutting, die cutting is leading.
Labels are mainly used in cosmetics, electronic appliances, medicine, daily necessities, food and beverage, supermarkets and other retail products and logistics. From the current market situation, demands of cosmetics, food, and medical care for label products are prominent. From the perspective of the global label market, currently self-adhesive label accounts for 40%, wet glue label for 42%, shrink label and package film (wrapped label) for 9% and 7% respectively. Wet glue labels and self-adhesive labels occupy an absolutely dominant position in the global label market. With the label industry continues to mature and customer requirements for packaging improvement, the amount of processing of wet glue labels will gradually reduce in the future while the amount of processing of self-adhesive labels and shrink sleeves will rapidly increase. The demand for high value-added self-adhesive material solutions for label printing industry will gradually expand.
Information provided by the Label Group showed that the annual consumption per capita of sticker in American and European countries is 15-18 square meters, among which the United States is 15-16 meters, Nordic Scandinavia is 17-18 meters, Brazil is 2.2 meters, while China is less than 3 meters. Self-adhesive label printing market and self-adhesive materials have great development potential in China, Brazil and other countries. Driven by economic development in recent years, the average annual growth rate of label printing market in China has remained about 20%. China is one of the fastest growth markets in the world.
With foreign label printing enterprises and products into China and the introduction of advanced equipment, technology and management experience, self-adhesive market is gradually formed. Currently, the country has been able to process all types of high-end labels. Some labels previously printed abroad have been converted to domestic processing, which is also the main reason for the rapid development of label printing.
