China’s excavator market has grown by an average of 30% annually for 10 years, which has been one of the world’s largest markets. In terms of current situation, every kind of infrastructure, such as road traffic, energy and water conservancy, and urban construction has reached its construction peak. The demand for excavator keeps growing. In 2010, the actual total accumulated sales volume of national excavators exceeded 165,000, with a year-on-year increase of 74.5%.

At present, China excavator market is mainly dominated by Japanese, Korean, European and American brands. In terms of level pattern of product market, some European and American brands, such as Caterpillar, VOLVO, Case, JCB, Terex and Liebherr occupy the high-end market of China excavator industry; some Japanese brands, such as Komatsu and Kobelco occupy the high and middle-end market of China excavator industry; and some Korean brands, such as Doosan and HYUNDAI occupy the middle-end market of China excavator industry. However, foreign enterprises with good quality but high price can not fully jump over the payment threshold of Chinese users. A majority of domestic brands are in the low and middle-end market. Currently, some domestic brands are also entering the high-end market of China excavator industry, such as any Heavy, Sunward and LiuGong Machinery have made some breakthroughs in China’s high-end market.

At the end of 2010, domestic large enterprises began to expand the production capacity of excavators successively, and other enterprises are tending to develop new series of excavator products, which hope to bring the profitability growth by the fast development of excavator market. In fact, Considering both risk factors and benefits, due to the inactive promotion on affordable housing by banks, it indirectly leads to the shrink of engineering mechanical sales volume in Q2 2011.In May 2011, the sales volume of domestic excavator was 13,956, with a year-on-year decrease of 12.4%, which was the first month of year-on-year decrease. From Jan. to May, the accumulated sales volume was 115,589, with a year-on-year increase of 38.1%, which decreased by 12% comparing to the period of Jan. to Apr.

The data shows, from Jan. to May. 2011, the market shares of domestic brands further increased to 37%. At present, the Sany Heavy’s production capacity of domestic excavator ranked the top, which reached the annual sales volume of over 10 thousand, while the top 4 enterprises in this industry can reach the level of 4,000 sets/year. Moreover, the capacity expanding growth of other enterprises is also strong. In the next period, it’s will be normal for domestic brands grasp the imported machine and second-hand products market shares.

Generally speaking, the domestic excavator inventory volume is relatively low, but the product price is relatively high. The main sales model is financing and leasing or banking mortgage. If the credit is somewhat loose, the sales volume of excavators will rebound best. It’s predicted with the recovery of world and China’s economy, the progress of real estate and urbanization construction will speed up, the sales volume of all kinds of excavators with different tonnages will continue to grow. Except for uncertain factors, the excavators with different tonnages will grow by more than 15% from 2011 to 2013.
