Along with the fast development of national economy and stable growth of residents’ income, China’s jewelry industry shows a rapid development trend that the total sales revenue reaches 125.2 billion Yuan with a year-on-year growth of 41.47%. The performance of the jewelry enterprises above the designated size is much more outstanding that the sales revenue in the first half year of 2011 reaches 110.1 billion Yuan with a year-on-year growth of 68.85%. Nowadays the per-capita jewelry consumption for Chinese has increased from 10.2 USD in 2000 to 18.8 USD in 2009. Still, it is in lower level comparing with the developed countries which the per-capita jewelry consumption is 154.7 USD for American (9 times as high as that for Chinese) and 89 USD for Japanese (6 times as high as that for Chinese). Mckinsey estimates that China’s luxury market will rapidly rise up in the future that the market scale will increase from 125.2 billion Yuan to 180 billion Yuan by 2015. Then China will become the largest luxury market in the world. And gold, silver and jewelry will mostly benefit from the fast upgrading of the consumption structure this time.

The “list of 2011 top 500 brands with biggest value” shows that there are 14 jewelry enterprises in the list, among which the H.K. Chow Tai Fook with a value of more than 10 billion Yuan while other jewelry enterprises are beyond top 100 and most of them are involved in the list for the first time. The domestic jewelry brand market with an obvious regional character. The domestic jewelry industry is still in the early stage that the leading corporations are not yet formed. The structure of “big industry, small corporations” for domestic jewelry retailing industry will last for a period. However, the industry prospects are optimistic while the giant corporations will keep a fast growth.

It is an urgent target for jewelry retailers to strengthen the channel construction to expand marketing in order to success in the fierce competitive landscape. The marketing networks for jewelry brands are all necessary to be further improved. Shanghai Laofengxiang with more than 600 jewelry stores, 15 regions for exclusive distribution, and over 1,080 marketing networks in China; CHJ with 367 franchise stores by the end of 2010, among which 66 are new; Chow Sang Sang with 43 new regular chains. It will be an inevitable choice for many brands of strength to gain the initiative and market share by fast expansion, controlling the retailing terminal by establishing nationwide marketing network.
