For 65% Chinese, their stable food is rice. Rice plays a significant role in national food safety. The grain planting area in 2010 was 109.87 million hectare, up 0.89 million hectare comparing with that in last year. As the most important grain in China, the rice planting area accounted for over 30% of the grain planting area. The national rice output in 2010 was 82.444 million tons, up 30.5% over the same period of years. Along with the fastening urbanization in China, more than 200 million rural populations will transfer to urban area which will greatly increase the rice demand in urban area. The change of urban consumption structure will indirectly consume more grains.

Comparing with other industries, the current rice industry in China with small size and poor organization degree. In the aspect of rice processing, small-sized production, individual workshop and peddler are the mainstream. And the industry with few well-known brands and leading corporations as well as low market concentration. With the deepening economic globalization, China’s huge consumption market will attract more and more international rice brands that the domestic market competition will be gradually fierce. As customers’ loyalty to Chinese rice brands is not high at present, part of the market share may loss.
