An industrial park (also known as industrial estate, trading estate) is an area zoned and planned for the purpose of industrial development. Depending on the internal need of economic development, a national/regional government plots out an area by administrative means in order to gather and integrate kinds of production factors, improve industrialization intensivism and optimize function layout. In China, the industrial park contains all kinds of development areas like national economic and technology development area, hi-tech industry development area, bonded area, export processing area and provincial areas of varied industries, etc.

In China, as the new focus of regional economic development, the industrial park springs up like mushroom. Many of the industrial parks gain economic benefits; some of them even represent the regional image. According to statistics from development planning department of the ministry of science and technology, by the end of 2010 in China, there are 83 national new and hi-tech zones, 107 national economic and technology development areas, 39 national eco-industrial demonstration parks which are under construction, and among the 39 there are 12 which has past the inspection. Most China’s provinces, cities and even some counties have taken steps to construct their own industrial parks.
